I'm From Barcelona Contest

Last week, Who Killed Harry Houdini?, the second album from the Spanish impersonators I'm From Barcelona hit shelves and computers everywhere. To help celebrate, the band is hosting a contest on their MySpace page. The challenge: to remix the fifth track from the album, Music Killed Me, and hope that your version kicks everyone else's version's butt. Finish it by November 3rd, post in on your MySpace page, let them know about it, and if you end up on top your remix will be posted on the band's site and you'll get tickets for an upcoming show. Head to their MySpace page for more details.

While the album does include a song named after the famous escape artist, it's hard to find the thematic connection woven through the rest of the album. As a whole, the album certainly does an about-face from the band's debut. This time around, the 20+ member group tones things down with a melancholy air that will strike previous fans as quite different than what they're familiar with. Here are a few tracks to see what I'm talking about, including Mingus, one that tries to remain upbeat. And don't forget to enter the remix contest if that's your thing.

Visit their website, their label Mute Records, and become their friend on MySpace.
