Three years after releasing their last album
More Adventurous and having signed with
Warner Bros Records,
Rilo Kiley is back with their fourth album,
Under the Blacklight, which is scheduled to be out August 21st. There has been a lot of questions flying about whether or not the band would come back together after doing their solo thangs and put out an album worth its weight. With the arrival of
The Moneymaker (listen and / or watch below if you haven't caught it yet), there has been a mixed bag of reviews as to the group's seemingly new direction. Having listened to the entire album, I'll have to tell you, hang on to your seats and be prepared for a wild ride. It's going to be a divisive affair; you're either going to love it or hate it. I happen to fall into the love it camp.
The band has taken on a 70's sort of disco taste most evident in my favorite track on the album,
Breakin' Up. It reminds me a lot of
The Rosebuds' latest,
Night of the Furies. That being said, you're either not going to be able to get enough of Jenny Lewis and company or you're going to wish they stayed apart focusing on their solo gigs.
